A Message From The Rector

As your Rector, I am thrilled to welcome you to a community that will quickly become your home away from home. You are about to step into a hall brimming with history, tradition, and an unparalleled sense of brotherhood. Built in 1925, Morrissey is a true legacy dorm that houses 188 brothers. While some of the newer halls on campus might have a modern look, they simply cannot match the deep-rooted character and fierce loyalty that defines the Manor.

Because we reside in one of Notre Dame's most historic buildings, there are a few architectural quirks to expect. To put it softly: our individual rooms are not air-conditioned, and they tend to be a bit smaller than what you might find in a building built last year. However, what the Manor lacks in square footage, it more than makes up for in character and unmatched community. The true strength of our hall lies just outside your door. --David

Long Live The Manor!

Established in 1925 on the South Quad of the University of Notre Dame, Morrissey Manor (a.k.a. Morrissey Hall) is one of the campus's most architecturally distinct and storied men’s residence halls. Named after the university’s seventh president, Rev. Andrew Morrissey, C.S.C., the building is renowned for its elaborate masonry and iconic "Manor" tower, which houses some of the smallest but most character-building rooms on campus.

The hall’s identity is deeply rooted in its shield representing the cross of Saint Andrew, which features symbols representing scholarship, faith, brotherhood, and sportsmanship.

Game Watch

Our premier signature event where thousands of members from the student body gather directly on the South Quad to watch The Irish play their first away game of the season.

Morrissey Football League

Includes a theatrical Morrissey League Draft Day with celebrity announcers. The hall's internal competitive football gridiron tradition highlights immense hall pride and athletic legacy among the Manorites.

“Yaz’s” Basement Restaurant

Our legendary student-run food sales kitchen honoring former Notre Dame student-athlete and Boston Red Sox baseball player Carl Yastrzemski. Get ready for the best late-night food on campus: homemade pulled pork, shredded chicken, scratch-made mac and cheese, and our famous homemade milkshakes.

First-Year Setup & Move-In

Welcome Weekend Logistics

To help you transition, our Welcome Weekend committee—chaired by two outstanding upperclassmen and staffed by dedicated Manorites—is ready for you. The moment you pull up, our team will greet you car-side right in the parking lot to sign you in and carry your gear directly to your room. Expect a week packed with social events, food, games, and orientation info sessions.

The Classic "Quad" Layout

The majority of first-years are assigned to Quads (with a handful in traditional doubles). This consists of two smaller residential bedrooms connected by a shared central common room, instantly establishing a fantastic four-man social dynamic.

Each Bedroom Includes:

Two twin beds (typically lofted to maximize space)
Two desks and chairs
Two wardrobes
In-room sink and medicine cabinet

Common Room Planning & Shipping Addresses

The shared common space does not come with university-provided furniture. There is plenty of room for a futon, refrigerator, and a TV with a stand. Coordinate with your quadmates first before purchasing these large items. We recommend ordering them to arrive after move-in.

Manor Spaces

Following our major selective renovation completed in 2019, daily life centers around high-functioning community areas: our vibrant floor Center Lounges, the basement area containing our Weight Room & Laundry Facilities, and our robust study lounge, “The Trenches”. Our crown jewel remains the Little Flower Chapel, donated by the Kevin Holtz Family, honoring our patroness saint, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux.

Saint Liam Hall Campus Pharmacy

Please note that the campus pharmacy is no longer operated by Walgreens. The prescription facility located inside Saint Liam Hall is now operated by The South Bend Clinic (Duly Health and Care).
